The action C3 foresees the reduction of shrubs covering in areas close to beech forest. The reduction of shrub cover will be carried out according to a randomized mosaic.

 

 

The work has been done trhough the identification and maintenance of existing ecological corridors and through the recovery of pasture land in compliance with the ecotonebelts. In particular we proceeded to the trimming of pasture areas againstrecent invasions of rhododendron and blueberry, removal of stones on the pasture (small stones not deeply buried in the ground) and the definition of ecological corridors by fences to be protected and maintained.

Carabus olympiae, steno-endemic species of Val Sessera, lives in a very small area within forest habitats. In the last century the species was threatened with extinction by collectors, but thanks to the characteristics of the habitat in which they live, that can provide shelter and food, this insect was able to overcome the phases of the population regression.
