Article published in Forest Ecology and Management

The scientific journal Forest Ecology and Management has published the article Effects of forest management on ground beetle diversity in alpine beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) stands (M. Negro et al. / Forest Ecology and Management 328 (2014) 300 -309), article born in the scope of the project LIFE Carabus.

Forest Ecology and Management is an international peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles linking forest ecology with the management of forest resources. The journal publishes research manuscripts that report results of original research, review articles, and book reviews. Articles may report work related to any forest ecosystems worldwide, including plantations and natural forests. Forestry-related topics are covered that apply biological and social knowledge to address problems encountered in forest management and conservation.

Information session of the project

The Friday, June 27 was held an information evening of the project, the meeting take place at the conference hall at the Museum of the Territory of Biella and was addressed to the population and local stakeholders.

In the meeting were presented the objectives and actions of the project, it progress and the socio-economic impacts expected.

Second monitoring visit


The LIFE project CARABUS (Protection and conservation of habitat of species for the consolidation of the population of Carabus olympiae in Valsessera) received the second monitoring visit the 8 and 9 of May of 2014. The visit took place in Trivero, in the headquarters of Ermenegildo Zegna (project coordinator), by Stefania dall'Olio, member of the external monitoring group, Astral-Timesis, the European Commission uses this group to monitor the performance of the LIFE projects.


In the meeting participated actively different members of all the partners (the Piedmont Region, Comunità montana Vallemosso- Prealpi Biellesi, University of Turin, Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology and Department of Forestry and Food and Agricultural Sciences and DREAM Italy). The meeting highlighted the correct conduct of all beneficiaries involved as the project provided. On the day of 9th of May took place a verification of the field works in the areas that the project aims to re-naturalise and on the beech trees areas that will be submitted to the forestry interventions aimed at improving habitat conditions of Carabus olympiae.
